One channel is not the market
One job portal is only one window into the market
Different channels serve different discovery purposes. They can overlap, the same vacancy may appear in several places, but they do not give you the same access to employers, listings or professional visibility.
One channel
One view of the market: shaped by what that channel happens to list.
Same search intent, several channels
Some results repeat across channels. Others exist only where you have not looked yet.
Your search channels
Build a search stack that fits how you want to work
You do not need every channel equally. You need the combination that produces relevant opportunities for your professional profile.
Channel categories, not a ranking. Which combination works best depends on your profession, industry and region, and channels can overlap.
Search terms in practice
Use more than one way to describe the work you want
You already have the professional vocabulary. A search term becomes more useful when it carries context: industry, specialisation, function or location.
Illustrative queries
Process Engineer
Process Engineer Pharma
Validation Engineer Pharma
Technical Operations GMP
Manufacturing Engineer Munich
Examples only: build the same pattern around your own professional context.
German and English terminology
Not exact synonyms. Depending on the employer and industry, both German and English terminology can appear in vacancy titles.
Filter intelligence
Filters should refine your search, not erase it
Start broad enough to learn what the market actually offers. Then refine selectively, and check what each additional condition removes.
Broader
Profession · Germany
Refined
Profession · industry · region · recency
Very narrow
One city · 10 km radius · exact title · employment type
Which of your filters are essential, and which are simply preferences?
Filters worth handling consciously
Location and radius · industry · keyword or role · employment type · publication recency. A single city with a small radius can produce a very different picture of the market than a region or a Germany-wide search.
Employer-first search
Sometimes the better search starts with the employer
Many companies publish vacancies on their own websites. Especially when you are unfamiliar with the German market, it can be useful to identify relevant employers in an industry or region first, and then search their career pages directly.
Which sectors employ your professional profile?
Where are those industries concentrated?
Which companies work in that field: including the ones you do not know yet?
Open their own job sections and search your professional vocabulary.
Note which employers are worth revisiting regularly.

Search routine
A good job search is a system, not a single search session
Listings change, terminology sharpens and employers publish at different times. Choose a rhythm you can actually maintain, and use saved searches and email alerts where a channel offers them.
- 1SearchRun your terms across the channels in your stack.
- 2ReviewAre the results relevant, or is the term pulling the wrong work?
- 3SaveKeep the vacancies worth reading properly.
- 4RefineBorrow the titles and terminology appearing in the better results.
- 5Check employersRevisit the career pages you marked as relevant.
- 6Activate alerts where availableSome official channels support saved searches and job emails.
- ↻Return and compareThe next round starts from a sharper search than the last one.
Your search results should improve your next search.
Saved search
I want to see new jobs matching a recurring query.
Saved vacancy
I want to review or act on this particular role.
Employer to revisit
I want to return to this company career page. A working method you keep yourself: your own list, not a proceda feature.
No quota, no daily minimum. A routine only helps if you can keep it.

From search to application
Found a role worth pursuing? Now prepare the application
Finding a relevant vacancy changes the question. You are no longer searching broadly. Now you need to understand what the employer expects and prepare the application accordingly.
The next page in this series covers what belongs in a German application dossier. It is in preparation.
