Who is responsible for recognising my qualification?

There is no single authority responsible for recognising every foreign qualification in Germany. The responsible institution depends on the profession, the qualification, the type of recognition procedure, the legal framework and sometimes the intended place of work.

Why are different authorities responsible?

Germany organises recognition procedures through different legal and administrative structures. Some professions are regulated nationally, others are organised by the federal states, and some qualifications are assessed by professional chambers.
