How much does recognition cost in Germany?

Who determines the fee?
The competent authority, on the basis of the fee regulation that applies to it. Neither proceda nor any other private service sets or influences the official fee.
Why do costs differ so much?
Because different professions, procedures and institutions are governed by different legal frameworks. In addition, the scope of the individual assessment can affect the amount.
Does every profession cost the same?
No. Regulated and non-regulated professions follow different procedures, and regulated professions may involve additional licensing steps with their own fees.
Do translations cost extra?
Translations are usually commissioned separately and are not part of the authority fee. Whether translations are required at all depends on the procedure and the documents.
Are certifications included in the fee?
Usually not. Certified copies and authentications are obtained from the issuing bodies or notaries and are charged separately.
What does a ZAB Statement of Comparability cost?
The ZAB publishes a fee of €208 for a Statement of Comparability; a reissue costs €104. A Statement on a Foreign Vocational Qualification is published at €150. Please check the current figures on the ZAB website before applying.
What costs are not part of recognition?
Visa and residence fees, language courses, travel and accommodation belong to separate procedures or to your own planning, even when they occur at the same time.
Can my employer pay the costs?
Some employers cover recognition costs, often as part of a hiring or retention agreement. This is a private arrangement between you and the employer.
Can the Jobcenter or Employment Agency help?
Support may be possible depending on your individual situation. The responsible office decides on each measure, usually in advance and after consultation.
What is the Recognition Grant?
A federal support programme for costs arising from a recognition procedure. It follows its own eligibility rules, income limits and application requirements, which the responsible body confirms.
Can funding be requested afterwards?
As a rule, no. Support programmes generally have to be applied for before the costs are incurred. This is why funding should be clarified before an application is submitted or a fee is paid.
Can people living abroad receive funding?
This depends on the programme. Some support schemes are tied to residence, employment or benefit status in Germany. The conditions of the individual programme are decisive.
Do language examinations cost extra?
Yes. Language courses and examinations are charged by the providers and are not part of the recognition fee, even when a language level is required for the profession.
Can a qualification analysis create costs?
It can. A qualification analysis is an additional procedural step; whether it is applicable and how it is charged is decided by the competent authority.
Can adaptation measures create costs?
Yes. Adaptation courses, knowledge tests and aptitude tests are separate measures with their own costs and follow the recognition decision.
Are visa fees part of recognition costs?
No. Visa and residence procedures are administered separately and carry their own fees, even when recognition is a requirement for them.
Does the federal state affect the fee?
For professions administered at state level it can. The fee regulation of the responsible institution applies, and these regulations are not identical across Germany.
Can recognition be free of charge?
